$12.5M in Off-Strip Guarantees in Two Weeks. Read That Again.
The counterprogramming war against the WSOP has escalated from a skirmish into a full-blown parallel economy.

Add up every off-strip guarantee Charlotte has tracked for June 1β14, and the number is $12.5 million β more than the entire Harrah's Cherokee WSOPC stop promised last month.
That's not a typo. That's not a projection. That's what the tournament listings say, right now, for the first two weeks of June alone.

The Lineup
Here's what's already posted across off-strip schedules:
- A $3,500 NLH with a $5M guarantee starting June 12
- A $1,600 NLH carrying a $2.5M guarantee across two flights beginning June 8
- A $1,100 NLH turbo with $1.5M guaranteed on June 3β4
- Two separate $1,100 DCPS events at $1M guaranteed each, on June 8 and June 12
- A $500 Main Event with $500K guaranteed running multiple flights on June 12
Stack those up. A single $5M guarantee in an off-strip event would have been unthinkable five years ago. Now it's one line item in a two-week stretch.
What This Actually Means
The WSOP isn't losing its grip on summer poker β but it's lost its monopoly on the money. Off-strip rooms have figured out the formula: undercut the buy-in, inflate the guarantee, and let the WSOP's foot traffic do the marketing for you. Thousands of players fly to Las Vegas for the bracelet chase. Not all of them can afford $10K entries every other day. A $1,600 event with $2.5M guaranteed is a very loud invitation.
The counterargument is simple: guarantees are just numbers on a flyer until they're met. Rooms eat overlays all the time. Fair point. But the trend line doesn't care about any single overlay. These rooms keep posting bigger numbers because last summer's numbers got met. The money is real because the demand is real.
What we're watching is a structural shift. The summer poker economy in Las Vegas is no longer one series with some side action. It's a $12.5M parallel market running in the first fourteen days β and the WSOP hasn't even hit its biggest events yet.
If you're bankroll-planning for June, the Strip isn't the only spreadsheet you need.
