I checked the Bravo timestamps twice. Three separate $5/10 NLH tables opened between 8:28 p.m. and 9:07 p.m. ET, and a $20/40 Mix lit up at the same time. Four mid-to-high-stakes tables in a 40-minute window, all at a single property in Everett, Massachusetts.

The Conventional Wisdom Is Wrong

The default assumption in poker is that if you want real mid-stakes action — consistent $5/10 and above — you go to Vegas. Maybe you detour through Commerce or the Bike. East Coast? You settle for $2/5 and feel lucky if a single $5/10 runs.

Encore is demolishing that narrative. Four tables at $5/10+ don't open unless there's deep, genuine demand. You can't fake that with a couple of whale-hunting regs trying to start a game. That's a full room's worth of players buying in at $1,000-plus on a holiday weekend evening, and enough of them wanting mixed games that a $20/40 Mix can fill.

The Counter-Argument

Sure, someone will say this is a Memorial Day weekend outlier — vacationers, long-weekend tourists, inflated traffic. Fair point. But tourist-driven rooms don't spread $20/40 Mix. That's a local-ecosystem game. Tourists play $1/3 NLH with a $300 max. A $20/40 Mix game requires regulars who know the rotation and want to play it at those stakes.

What Encore is building looks structural, not seasonal. The property has the floor, the dealers, and — critically — the player pool to spread this kind of action on a consistent basis.

What This Means

If you're a mid-stakes grinder on the East Coast still planning your life around Vegas trips, pay attention. The action at Encore isn't an anomaly to dismiss. It's a data point that should change how you allocate your sessions — and maybe your summer plans.

Vegas will always be Vegas. But on May 25, the best mid-stakes spread in the country might have been 2,500 miles east of the Strip.
