Three Lead Changes in 97 Minutes: The $25K Fantasy Leaderboard Is a Knife Fight
Verderamo, Team Lang, and Stake Kings traded the top spot as late-night scoring exploded across the WSOP on May 30.

At 8:23 PM Pacific on May 30, Verderamo (Nick + Jake) grabbed the $25K fantasy lead for the second time in 97 minutes. It was the third lead change since Stake Kings collapsed from 21.7 points to 10.1 in a single scoring update.
Three lead changes. Under two hours. That's the most volatile stretch of the 25kfantasy.com contest this summer, and it happened while most of the field was refreshing the sweat page between dinner courses.
Stake Kings dropped 11.6 points in a single scoring update, falling from the top spot to fourth.
The Stake Kings Freefall
Ryan Stiner's Stake Kings squad entered the 8:23 PM update sitting on 21.7 points and holding the lead. One refresh later: 10.1 points, rank four. That's an 11.6-point swing, the kind of collapse that turns a comfortable cushion into a scramble.
Stake Kings weren't the only team cratering. Blades & Shades (Nick G) went from 13.6 to 5.6, an 8-point drop that knocked them to sixth. Two rosters getting gutted in the same update tells you something about which WSOP events were producing busts at that exact moment.
Musical Chairs at the Top
Here's how the lead changed hands:
- 8:23 PM PT: Stake Kings β Verderamo (Nick + Jake). The Stiner collapse opens the door.
- 9:53 PM PT: Verderamo β Team Lang (Mike + Josh). Lang's roster catches a scoring bump and takes over.
- 10:08 PM PT: Team Lang β Verderamo. Fifteen minutes. That's all Team Lang held it. Verderamo reclaims the top.
Three transitions in under two hours. The gap between first and fourth is razor-thin, and any bust or deep run across the remaining WSOP fields could flip the board again.
What It Means for Your Roster
Volatility like this rewards teams with diversified exposure across multiple simultaneous events. The squads that got punished (Stake Kings, Blades & Shades) likely had concentrated rosters in the same event or two. When those events produced eliminations in the same window, the scoring carnage was instant.
Verderamo's ability to reclaim the lead twice suggests their roster is spread across enough fields to absorb individual busts without tanking. That's a structural advantage, not luck.
Team Lang's 15-minute reign is a reminder that being contrarian only works if the timing holds. Mike and Josh had the right roster for one scoring window. Then the next update erased it.
The Scoreboard Right Now
